'Huizen die er niet meer zijn' 'Demolished houses'
Het schilderend documenteren van de afbraak van stadsbeeld begon tijdens een verblijf in Beijing (1999 -2001). Het vormt de achtergrond van beeldverhalen 'Steenstof', 'Huishulp' en staat centraal in 'Het graf van de keizer.
Het zicht van weggehaalde huizen is onvergetelijk beschreven door R. M. Rilke in ‘Aantekeningen van Malte Laurids Brigge’ (1910). Van deze roman vormt ‘Dichter in de massa’ (2010, bij uitgeverij Atlas) een beeldadaptatie. De schilderijen en tekeningen vormen samen een beeldenstroom waaronder een tekstspoor meeloopt.
Gerolf started documenting the destruction of cityscapes in his painting during his stay in Beijing (1999 -2001). It forms the background of the graphic novels Steenstof, Huishulp and The Emperor’s Tomb.
The view of demolished houses is unforgettably described by R. M. Rilke in ‘The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge’. 'Poet among the masses' (2010, published by Atlas) is a graphic adaptation of this novel. The paintings and drawings form a stream of images under accompanied by a textual track.
